Colors of braces is always a matter of concern for many patients who come with a problem of their teeth alignment, but in the end would also want to have their teeth look whiter and neat while the braces are on. There are many who would ask “what color braces should i get” but the answer cannot be given by the Orthodontist. While a few would not mind having the normal braces until they are doing the needed function, a few in the younger generation would want to get their braces colored based on what is their favorite one, or which one would suit the color of their skin, or various other factors. Coloring the braces wouldn’t add the color to the entire orthodontic kit that is placed over the teeth, but it would be just on the bands that are placed on the braces, except when you are cashing out high amounts for some like the invisible braces.
Colored dental braces are available on only a few types of braces, so it isn’t always a choice for the patients to select which color they want to have, but it would depend on which braces they are going to get. For example, the self ligating braces wouldn’t be needing the bands over the braces and so these won’t be giving the users a choice to select the color. The reason for not having bands on the self ligating braces is that the elastic bands on these type of braces add more resistance and thus are not used on them, else they would just increase the time of wearing of braces and the entire treatment time.
Choosing the Braces colors
When you have got a yellowish tint on your natural teeth, do not think to have a darker color on the braces because these would make the teeth look more darker and thus the aesthetic look becomes poorer. Try to have something in the range of silverish color for the yellowish teeth.
Black is another perfect color when you aren’t unsure which would make the teeth look better, and black always makes the teeth brighter but one disadvantage with the black braces is that with the smaller teeth, the black color looks larger than usual.
When you have got yellow teeth, try to avoid even the clear braces because they wouldn’t do anything to make your teeth look different or better. It would be the same yellow color of the tooth reflected out.
Based on the color of the face, you can go with a few darker colors of the braces like the red and brown which makes the teeth brighter when you have a light colored face, and similarly if you have a darker face you shouldn’t try these dark braces which not just makes the teeth look colored and not bright, but also isolated within the dark skin color and the brace colors.
Maintaining the color of Braces
Braces getting discolored isn’t anything new, with the different types of foods making the braces colors to change based on the way they act on them. When you have the braces placed, it would be better to maintain a proper diet with simple food which would not just make the braces stay properly but also would not discolor them.
Acidic foods, beverages like tea and coffee would go on to discolor the braces and thus there would be no advantage of getting the braces colored. Try to reduce the intake of acidic drinks, as they are one of the most common reasons for the braces to lose their color.
Apart from the foods, its the toothbrush selection which has to be done properly, and there are orthodontic brushes available using which you can clean the proper places in the gaps between the braces, and these brushes don’t put any pressure on the braces.
The Most suitable color for Braces
Although we discussed on which color could be the best based on the teeth color and the skin color, the most suitable color for the braces would be the silverish one as it doesn’t reflect the original color of the tooth largely, and if the teeth are yellowish, it would not be that noticeable.
